Everything was dead...there was nothing left to grow on and live. The trees were broken and twisted in odd shapes. The sun beat down hottly on the dry ground. No rain ever fell here. Maybe that was part of the reason that no growth happened here. Even back at the school...not even the studnets or teachers with the plant growing power could make anything grow here. The young man crouched near the edge of the green trees, he could feel the hot sun already from this distance. He wasn't happy about coming here. But he was the expert. No one else dared to come here and kill them. The demons. No one but the Headmaster believes him. No one thinks that the Evil One that haunted the forest eons ago is back. But Tristan knew. He saw. He was here to hunt and kill the lesser demons of the Evil One, the ones he sends are to see if the forest barriers are weak enough to have a full fledge-attack. But Tristan was skilled at killing the demons....since he was already half of one. Yes...he was half demon and half angel. He wasn't really a student at the school, more of a teacher...but not. He wasn't here to learn to control his powers, he already knew how too, he hired by the Headmaster to protect the borders of the forest. He was Tristan the Dark Angel. Jas, his golden panther dropped from a branch high in a tree to his right. The half demon was blind in his right eye, Jas was his right eye for him. He had lost his right eye in a firece battle with his demon father when he wanted to leave. Tristan won...but lost a presicous gift....his right eye. The half-demon sniffed the air, his golden eye hovering near a large broken twisted tree. He nodded his head to Jas, who silently moved out of the comforting shade and into the hot sun. She crouched low, moving slowly. But soon was near the tree and pounced. A squeal and a snarl come from behind the large twisted tree. A small black demon was soon in full flew of Tristan. His unsheathed his sword and unfuled his wings. Leaping into the sky, his eye locked onto his target. It was moving quickly though the broken trees, Jas giving chase. Tristan felt the hot sun beat down on his back, but he ignored it. He felt her fierece joy at the demon chase, he gave a smirk at her happiness with the hunt. He tucked his wings and moved to the earth again. He opened them near the ground, his shadow over the demon. It squealed again when it saw the shadow over its gross black body. It knew that this half-demon half-angel was here to kill. Tristan grabbed the neck of the demon. And moved up into the high sky. Jas soon turned and headed back to the comforting shade. Tristan flew higher and higher. The demon squeal and struggling all the way. Then the half-demon stopped, hovering high over the broken dead land. His hand gripping the demon's neck hard.
"Speak demon...before my sword meets your belly." Tristan hissed, as he pointed his board sword near the demon's belly. It squealed and struggled more. But Tristan held tight. HIs golden eye narrowing. It's voice was like nails on a chalkboard. It was high pitched...and squeaky. A weak demon. "He sent me! Don't kill me....He is awake! Ahh....loosen your grip half-angel!" he spat at his face. Tristan tighted it more, making the demon scream. "He needs a vessel...his body is gone...but his life-force remains in the rock. He needs a body to inhabit. A body that already knows about evil...." The half-demon nodded his thanks. And swiftly sheathed his sword. The demon relaxed, but then Tristan quickly blasted the poor creature with a black fire. Cursing him as it went back to hell. Tristan was visibly shaken at what the demon had said....A vessel...it needed a vessel. Shaking his head, he flew back to Jas...and the safety of the forest. He landed akwardly on the ground. His body felt weak and broken. Jas purred at his side. The shade of th etrees felt so good compared to the blazing sun. He laid a hand on the golden panther's head. Giving her the reasurement that he was alright and unharmed. But the demon's words still cling to him....a vessel....who could it be? He would need to keep a better eye on the students....
Let's go home belove Tristan, you need a rest. Only if it was a weak demon...it took some energy to kill.
Jas spoke in his mind. He nodded his agreement. And slowly leaned some of his weight on his only friend. Tristan couln't tell her what the demon said...not yet...but knowing her she probably already guessed.

"Poi- you see that?! He jsut totally beat that guy!" Zen cried in a whisper, Oko cuddled around him. "Stole the info and killed him! That is so cool!"
"Yeah, but it knocked some out of him, too, Zen." both brothers had thier eyes locked on the leaning Half-demon. Ata rested his head on Poi's lap.
"I wonder what the demon said." Zen piped. "He didn't seem to happy to hear it."
"Good point. But I don't think he'll be any happier if he knows we're here. Common- let's split before he notices that these rocks are not very natural..."
"But I want to stay a little longer..."
"5...4...3..."
"Okay...but we can't run- won't he kinda see us? Oko got up, read to mount his little master. No, the panther could catch them easily if it wanted to.
"Lets try digging our way out. If we can make a tunnel quietly, then that is our best bet." So, Poi nodded, and the dogs began digging as quietly as they could behind the conjered rocks. Zen slowly worked his magicks, and so they decended. There weren't any roots to take care of, so Poi simply had to use his hands to help dig with his brother. "If he notices, we're toast..."
"Tell me something I can't figure out myself."
"What's the square root of Pi?"
Zen just continued digging.

Jas pricked her ears her body at Tristan's right side as usual. A low growl rose from her throat. There was something to her beloves right, she was supposed to protect that side...and she noticed something. Her hackles rose alittle, her long teeth gleaming in the broken sun beams. Tristan whipped his head up, his left eye narrowing angerly. He smelled magic. Not demon magic but....he almost growled like Jas. He straighted from his friend's body. He wasn't going to take any chances, if another demon was in the forest...that means the barrier was weakening worse then he thought.
My dear, those rocks aren't real
Jas said quietly in his head. Tristan felt his black power rising in his chest and slowly flooding down his arm and into his finger tips. He drew his sword. The black light flooding to the long blade. Tristan felt it's power. This was a powerful demon if it could break the barrier and make it's magic feel and smell like something else. But he didn't think it was a demon. For the demon would make the rocks stronger....students? Could it be students that were learning to make rocks? THere was something false about the rocks....real rocks they had something like a life....The half-demon growled a little to himself. Angry at himself for letting students follow him. They must be good for them not to be sensed by either him or Jas. He slowly moved over to the fake rock. His golden eye blazing with anger. When he got his hands on these students.....oh there will be hell to pay for wandering off the school campus and into grave danger. He sheathed his sword, but the black power was still there. Stronger then with the demon.
"Come out boys." he said calmly, crossing his arms over his chest. He seemed calm...but his one golden eye was blazing with anger.

"Okay! Faster it is!" Well, that was far to quick- that guy was good. They were doomed. Zen was moving the dirt away as fast as he could- but it was dense and hard to brake apart, even with his brother and pets working with him. "Poi, think of something! We have to get out of here before he skins us!"
He had to think quickly, adn with the littel reasorces he had. "What do you want me to do? I can't use plants here, remember? This place is completely dead! Wait, Ata, Toku!"
And as Ata was commanded, Poi mounted his pet wolf. He rode out infront of the rocks. Trying to look strong and importent, he rode out in strait view of the Demon slayer. He looked over at the panther and the slayer, and made a quick decision. He mounted, right in front of them, and sat down with a face pleading for mercy.

Jas growled as the boy dismounted and seemed to plead for mercy. She could smell the fear-scent on him. As if he was afraid of her beloved Tristan. She knew there was another, but she kept silent. Seeing what her pair-bond would do to the poor boy. Hopefully he didn't scare him too much...then the boy would start spreading rumors of the half-demon. And then Tristan and her would be out of a job. It was a well paid job at that too. A place to sleep and keep warm at night. Not getting wet when it rained. Jas loved the arrangement they had with the headmaster of the school. And if the boys had any sense they would recongize him. She glazed over at Tristan to see his reaction, hoping he wasn't that cruel.
Be nice my dear....
Tristan turned to Jas with a look of reasurance. Then looked back at the boy. His face hadn't lost any of it's fury. But his golden eye relaxed a bit when his assumption of boys was right. But demons were tricky. Especially strong ones. But he didn't think these boys were demons. His arms still cross he scaned the boy up and down, seeing that a wolf was standing near the young boy. The boy didn't seem to have any sort of weapon on him that he could see. The face was priceless. The boy seemed to think that he was going to skin him alive. Like he had time to kill an inncocent human. He had bigger fish to fry. He grunted, a smirk was playing at his lips, "I'm not going to kill you, if that is what you think." he said quietly, his voice a rough and tired. "You can tell the other one to come out too. There isn't anywhere you can go..."

The wolf rose to his small paws. Ata didn't like teh panther staring at his master that way. he started to stand between Poi and the two taht might danger his master. He began to bear his teeth as well. THey would have to get through him first.
"Taytay." Poi isntructed, and the wolf retreated to sit at the boy's side. He still was ready to defend if he had to. The boy stood up and moved quickly. In moments, the ground began to shake. At first it was jsut lightly, but soon, as the sound grew louder, the ground began to violetly shake right where Poi had been. Poi was not starteled, and he he simply stood aside. Before long, the shaking stopped completely. Poi shook his head and began digging with his hands on the same spot. The pet wolf joined in a moment later.
From behind the rocks came a matching wolf, and if one didn't knwo teh both of them, they could be easily confused for one another. As the wolf trotted over, he began to digg, more heavily than the first wolf. Before to long, they had dug a sufficiant hole. Out of the whole, a dirty littel face popped up. The second wolf pulled him out of the hole.
"Okay," Zen panted. "Digging needs practice. Endurance too."
"Well, when we get back on campus we can talk to a teacher about it. Until then, we have to get ourselves out of this pickle." Poi groaned.
"So what do we do now?" Zen's pet, Oko, placed him on the ground next to Poi. He stared at the Demon adn the panther. "Wash cloths and dishes for a month?"
"If that's all he's gonna do to us, I'm gonna be one happy camper, Zen. Do you get what he can do to us?"
"Chop us up slowly and sell us to the Cafe Lady as 'Mystery Meat'? I can't think of much worse than that, Poi."
"Shut up, your probally giving him ideas."

Listening to them bicker Tristan let out a uncharacteristic laugh. his one eye had lost it's anger. And his body lost some of it's stiffness. Jas peered at her beloved for a moment, a strange look in her green eyes. She let out a friendly growl, the golden panther sat near the half-angel's side. Her body language calm and secure. Her green eyes laughing at the boys talk. Even though she was an animal she understand for more then any normal one. She knew things that only the gods were suppose to know. But that isn't the point. "I wasn't planning on chopping you up." he said as his bout of laughing stopped. "Washing dishes and clothes sounds way to easy for two boys that left campus without supervision. Both of you could get seriously hurt out there....there is a reason that the Broken Trees are off limits to students." he continued, his anger coming back slowly. Though he wasn't going to tell them what those reasons were. If they saw him kill the demon....then they should have some idea of the danger they placed themselves in. If that demon found them before he had killed it? Gods....that would have been horrible. The boys looked like twins so did the wolves. Interesting. He glanced at the desert of trees for a moment, rmembering what the demon had said. It set a chill down his spine. He didn't like how easy it was for the demon to talk....like the message was meant for him. Like the Evil knew he was trying to protect the forest. Gods in the heavens.

The twins shuddered- both of them. The demon they had seen him slaughter ws enough for them. However, Poi couldn't help but respond. He helped his brother up, and then turned to speak.
"But of course we knew. That's why we had to come out here and check it out. You know what I mean? The campus is so overly protected that we can't help but wander off onto the unprotected places."
"Of course I got pretty scared when Poi couldn't use his plant stuffs here, but that only ment that we had to go on further. We had to see what was here! You know how teachers are, putting all the cool adn scary stuff off limits."
The two brothers nodded together, just once. That Slayer Guy had to understand- he was their age once too, wasn't he? But what about the panther? If he wasn't gonna chop them up, and his chores weren't enough...? The twins thought of the same thing, teh same peril and turned the panther. The wolves, seeing their faces, began to step between their respective masters and teh large Golden Pantehr, who was obvioulsy more powerful then the two of them.

Tristan laid a gloved hand on the golden's panther head, he listened quietly as they both spoke quickly and about the same time. Tristan knew that most students couldn't resist the temptation of things off-limits. When he was that young....he was the one always in trouble...though his punishements were fit for a seventh hell demon. That was the reason he learned to make sure he was never caught when he made mischieve. Or ran to his mother who protected him from his father's rath. Though when she past away....he knew he has to run or he would die under his father's terrible thumb. That had made him stronger, less easy to trust anyone, excpet Jas. She was there when he came from his birth-place, she was there to protect him, to be his right eye. The eye that he lost killing his father. His demon father. He still didn't know what to do with the boys, what the best punishment would be. If he had been his father.....he didn't even what to think what his father would have done. Using his free hand he stratched his black-raven hair, he was at a lost. He wasn't used to talking to the students...he was there to protect them...not punish them or speak to them. But these two had purposely broke the rules. They had left the campus. The Headmaster had told him that if he found any students wandering of campus....he would have to deal with them. Sighing heavily, he lowered his hand to his side. The black force leaving his hands and back to where it came from in his core. He knew these two were clever and witty. Detention? Was that want happened at school? Sure why not. "Alright boys." his voice harsh. "Since I can't chop you both up...and washing things is a waste of time....I guess it's detention with me." he didn't know if it was the right thing. But he could protect them better from demons and other things out here then if he sent them packing back to school.

They didn't know wether to knock thier knees in fear, or to jump for joy of the excitment- so they simply stood in shock. Scyncranized, they gulped hard. They turned to eachother, blinked and then nodded. THey turend to the wolves, who turned to them.
"Ata," "Oko," "Kufko." THey commanded. The wolves croched a bit and the boys mounted atop their almost full grown wolves. "Katu."
With that, the wolves reared, ensuring the grip of their riders. When they hit the ground, the ground shook beneath Zen, but becasue plants didn't work around here- Poi was at a lost for his effect when he landed.
"I feel really helpless like this, Zen." He muttered, quite unhappy. "I mean, it's bad enought aht there isn't any planty shade around here, but that my abilities don't work at all-"
"Hey, did you try dead plants, Poi? I mean, they are still plants- pretty dead, but still plants." Zen seggested.
"Don't you remember anything the teachesr say? We aren;'t supposed to mess with the dead."
"Two problems with that statement. One: Since when did we listen to teachers? The second problem is that he was talking about people and such. DIdn't our other teacher, sicne we are going to lsiten to them now, say that plants use a diffrent life force than people and animals? You control plants, not the life of plants." Being that he was here, Zen decided to see Slayer's opnion of the matter. "What do you say?"
Both sets of twins now had their eyes locked on the Slayer.

Tristan was caught off guard by the question. He had heard the boys speaking among themselves. But didn't have his full attention on their conversation. His golden eye narrowed to something in the distance, could another demon be here? He sniffed the air, there was a faint scent of demon....but that could be just the demon he killed earlier. But could the evil one send another demon this quickly? Could it be another message? The half-angel visibly sighed. The sun was still blazing hotly over the dead barren ground. His attention was broken by the boys asking a question. He had been half listening...he really didn't hear what they had asked. He glanced at Jas, who was intently listening to the boy's conversation.
They asked if plants have a different life force then you people and animals
she whispered silently in his mind. She seemed to want to say more, but she held her tongue. Tristan blinked at her then at the boys, aloss for words. He really didn't know. He wasn't a plant expert. He knew demons....he knew how to fight. How to weild a sword. How to protect and defend. How to blast using the black power that radiated from his body. He was half-demon and half-angel....he had no idea. He glanced back over to Jas for help...he wasn't a teacher....he didn't know what to say. She sighed heavily, her body slumping to the ground. Her tail tapping the ground subconciously. She seemed annoyed that she had to explain something that seemed so trivil to her....but they were human-being...well most of them were...she opened her mind to allow the boys to hear her as well....no point in Tristan telling it again.
It's true....people and animals share a type of life-force that is it's similair to one another. Plants, they move slower then us, they can live for hundreds of years and not seem to age a day. Try talking to one of the ancient trees that surround the school...they will tell you. Rocks too have a life-force....I know it sounds impossible...something that doesn't breath and something that appears dead. But rocks have a far different life-force then any other. They can also hold a life-force....but that is getting off the subject...and bah....I getting ahead of myself. This place is barren for a reason....have you heard the tale of this place? It may be a good idea Tristan if they hear the story of the Broken Trees...then they may not come here so excited.
Tristan nodded to the golden panther, settling near her warm body. Almost wanting a story as bad as a two year old. His arms were crossed as he eyed the magficent panther. She shook her head...not wanting to talk anymore...her mind was private...and only meant for him...not for the boys...they had their wolves. He needed to tell it. He was encharge of their detention not her.

Why were they so silent? How could they stay silent to a question for so long? Then Poi realized- they wre talking. He could hear hr thoughts, and visa versa. Unlike The twins and thier pet wolves. They couldn't do taht- they had to go around it with simple touch and emotios. Maybe, somehow, it brought them closer- and better prepared for adnger of the two- speaking without words.
Poi and Zen, teh toxic twins, were simply confused by the silence. They shared thoughts uncontious to it, and their trains of thought ran vivid with one another, and yet it went unnoticed between them. it was something they never noticed. They did the same thing, only they thought it was simply thier own thoughts- not eachothers'.

Sighing agian, his brow furrowed. He knew even though Jas tried, the boys hadn't heard her explaination for their question. He would have to translate for her. It didn't seem right to him that the boys coldn't hear their wolves. He and the golden panther seem to be like one...like they completed each other. Sometimes they didn't have to speak at all....but at other times they just needed the comfort of each other's voice. "Jas answered your quesiton....but it seems not everyone can hear her voice. She said this....It's true....people and animals share a type of life-force that is it's similair to one another. Plants, they move slower then us, they can live for hundreds of years and not seem to age a day. Try talking to one of the ancient trees that surround the school...they will tell you. She seemed not to be paying attention to them anymore...panthers...bah!..."Well, would you think to hear this story? Or would you rather I take you back to the School for the Headmaster to deal with your punishment."

Did they wait to think about thier answer? Nope!
"We'll hear it!" They cried hastily. Htey learned forward, and then thinking, they spoke in unicen again.
"Tuka." The wolves crouched. "Kokuf." And they dismounted and the wolves relaxed. Teh boys sat down, and turning back to the wolves one last time, they gave the last word for the moment. "Igyo."
The wolves shuffled around so that they curled around the two boys in comfert and in defense against the world around them. The wolves seemed quite happy to be resting thier bodies on the earth, and thier heads in the boys' laps. The twins began to scratch Ata and Oko behind the ears, a plesant event for the four of them.
Then they looked directly at 'Slayer', as they had resided to calling him.

'Slayer' sighed again. Think about where to begin. The boys had to know a little of the evil that once terrorized the area and the school....killing hundreds of students. It was almost closed for good until the prophecy came froward. But that was a different story. He turned his head to Jas, but she seemed to have moved fathur away. He tried to apporach in her mind. But she wasn't in the mood for talking. "Well, this used to be one vast forest of ancient trees and hidden rivers. The school used to have twice the students he has now. The forest was thriving. But then a great evil came. No one saw who this was...or what it was....In the battle for the school and forest the Evil One and it's minions destroyed half of the forest. Thus, this becoming the Broken Trees. The trees can not speak to any, not even to the most powerful. They are twisted and broken. Dead in a way that no person should wish on anyone. Nothing grows here...no plant powers woke here. THe land is barren...even after eons of trying to rebirth the trees, nothing is left...even the life-force that inhabits the earth is gone. As you saw earlier, demons freely roam the hot barren wasteland of the once vast forest. The School's Headmaster threw up barriers around the growing froest and the dead one. This is the reason why this place is forbidden for students. Even the strongest student couldn't fight a seventh hell demon. So to answer your question that you gave eariler....no. You can't even use the dead trees here. Normal dead trees still have a power that you use to control. But these trees were sucked dry by the Evil one...." There that should be sufficent for the boys. That is all he could explain....
